Message from Executive Committee

The JSDE (Japan Society for Design Engineering) has been established in 1966. In 2005, the society had the 1st International Conference on Design Engineering and Science (ICDES 2005) at Vienna, Austria, followed by the 2nd ICDES 2010 at Tokyo, Japan, the 3rd ICDES 2014 at Pilsen, the Czech Republic and the 4th ICDES 2017 at Aachen, Germany.

Following the success of the four international conferences, we planned and announced to have the 5th ICDES 2020 at Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan in November, 2020, and received many good paper submissions. Due to the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 virus, however, we needed to have discussions about how ICDES 2020 can be held, and made a tough decision that ICDES 2020 would be an on line virtual conference. The ICDES 2020 Executive Committee are now focusing on not demerits and limitations but possible merits of on line virtual conference to make ICDES 2020 successful.

We hope ICDES 2020 will be a good opportunity for all participants to present studies and exchange information.
